Membership in the Paralegal Division (UCJA Rule 14-113):
- Submit the complete application for new membership (linked below);
- Submit annually upon renewal the following (linked below):
- An initial and annual certification of continuous sponsorship of a paralegal affiliate by an employer who is a bar licensee (Forms C1, C2, and/or C3);
- A certification by the bar licensee and paralegal that the paralegal undertakes no legal work outside the bar licensee’s supervision or the supervision of bar licensee members of the firm, except that joint sponsorship by joint employers is permitted (Forms C1, C2, and/or C3);
- An assumption of responsibility by the bar licensee for the compliance of the paralegal with all applicable rules of the Bar (Forms C1, C2, and/or C3);
- The paralegal affiliate's parallel commitment that the bar licensee and paralegal affiliate will notify the Bar of any change of employment of the paralegal affiliate (Forms C1, C2, and/or C3);
- Evidence of compliance with the CLE requirements as reflected on the membership application (CLE Certification Sheet); and
- Pay the annual membership fee.

- An ABA approved program of education and training for paralegals; OR
- An institutionally accredited paralegal training program consisting of a minimum of 60 semester hours wherein 15 hours are substantive legal courses; OR
- An institutionally accredited general college program consisting of 16 semester hours of substantive legal courses plus 45 semester hours of general college curriculum with at least 1 full year of employment experience as a paralegal; OR
- A minimum of 5 continuous years of full-time employment experience as a paralegal under the ultimate supervision of a bar licensee; OR
- A baccalaureate or higher degree in any field and at least 2 continuous years of full-time employment experience as a paralegal under the ultimate supervision of a bar licensee; OR
- The voluntary certification examination given by the National Association of Legal Assistants (NALA) or a comparable examination which has been recognized in the industry for at least 7 continuous years and completed at least 6 months of full-time employment as a paralegal; OR
- Successfully completed Distance Learning Course from either an ABA approved program or from a member of the American Association for Paralegal Education.
- Except for the fee requirement, the membership requirements are waived if the applicant is an active bar licensee as a Licensed Paralegal Practitioner.
