Mentor/Mentee Program

Empowering Paralegals Through Connection

The Utah State Bar Paralegal Division is excited to roll out a new Mentor/Mentee Program designed to build meaningful connections and foster professional growth, confidence, and community among paralegals by connecting experienced paralegals with those newer to the profession. At its core, mentorship is a supportive relationship in which a more experienced professional provides guidance, encouragement, and insight to someone seeking to develop their skills, navigate workplace dynamics, and grow in their career.

For paralegals, this mentorship can be especially valuable. Whether you’re just entering the field, transitioning into a new area of law, or seeking to refine your expertise, having a knowledgeable and supportive mentor can make all the difference. Mentors serve as sounding boards, role models, and resources—offering a helping hand that extends beyond the first job and well into the evolving stages of a paralegal career.

Program Highlights:
  • Personalized Connections: Pairing mentors and mentees within similar areas of law to ensure relevant and focused guidance.
  • Local Engagement: Matching participants to promote regional relationships and hands-on support.
  • Flexible Communication: Choose the style and frequency of communication that fits your schedule—whether virtual, in-person, or hybrid.

Member Benefits:
This program is an exclusive benefit available to all members of the Utah State Bar Paralegal Division. It serves as an added resource to help mentees navigate challenges, seek guidance on complex matters, and build confidence through mentorship. If you are not a current member of the Paralegal Division but would like to become one and take advantage of this benefit, among many other benefits, please see our Membership Page for additional information on joining the division.

Key benefits for mentees include:
  • Gaining insight into real-world applications of legal knowledge
  • Developing time management, case management, and communication skills
  • Learning how to navigate law firm culture and ethical challenges
  • Building professional confidence and career direction
  • Creating a trusted professional connection for long-term support

Key benefits for mentors include:
  • Strengthening leadership and communication skills
  • Contributing to the professional growth of the next generation
  • Enhancing personal satisfaction and professional engagement
  • Staying connected to the evolving needs and perspectives in the field

Mentorship in this program is not about having all the answers—it's about being a helping hand. Together, mentors and mentees can build a stronger, more confident paralegal community where no one has to navigate the challenges of their career alone.

How to Get Involved:
Ready to make a difference or learn from someone who’s been there? It’s simple:
  • 👉 Mentees, fill out the mentee application form
  • 🧭 Mentors, fill out the mentor registration form
Once submitted, our team will work to thoughtfully match you with someone in your area of law.

UNAUTHORIZED PRACTICE OF LAW:
While this program encourages open dialogue, professional development, and mutual support, it is essential that both mentors and mentees understand the boundaries of their roles. Paralegal mentors may not provide legal advice or engage in any activity that could be considered the unauthorized practice of law. All guidance shared must remain within the ethical boundaries of the paralegal profession and the mentor's own experience.
